Washington Pediatrics, Washington, North Carolina
This pediatric practice was located in a 2 story building with clinical and office space on both floors. Over time the demand for care increased but the building did not allow the practice to expand. Medical Design International was brought in to analyze the practice and assist the practice plan for the future. MDI programmed, provided architectural services and organized the practice into a new 13,500 SF single story office. The new office separates sick children (walk-in appointments) and well children (scheduled appointments), provides a lab for immunizations/shots and provides support for 5 providers and a visiting specialist at once.
To allow the practice to continue to expand in the future MDI recommended that the doctors share a common ‘bull pen’ office/conference room rather than individual offices. This saved area was then located near the clinical area so that could be used for future exam or treatment rooms. The waiting rooms, reception and checkout were also oversized to allow for future growth. The aquarium and murals in the office serve to separate waiting areas and also reflect the water front community that the practice is located in.
