Charlotte Orthopedic Clinic, Charlotte, North Carolina
At the time MDI worked with Charlotte Orthopedic Specialist it was a 24-doctor group in Charlotte, North Carolina. (It will be noted that we have done the planning and design work for both of the major orthopedic clinics in Charlotte.) The group occupied a number of sites through out Charlotte and the intent was to congregate the Charlotte-based doctors in a single facility by the local orthopedic hospital. The new enterprise was to include not only all the sub-specialties in orthopedics but physical therapy and clinic administration space.
MDI’s work with this clinic commenced with an analysis of all the doctors in the practice, assessing their production potential, conceptionalizing flow systems to support the integrated entity with its expanded physician complement as well as production characteristics and finally allocated space to support all of the users in the building. After this was done, MDI then stratified the services within a multi-level building, recommending which services went on which floor and recommending adjacencies to other departments.
With the building design, the hospital utilized the services of a local architect. MDI was hired as a Medical Planning and Design consultant and did the Schematic Design and Design Development portions for the interior up-fit of the building. In all, the building encompassed approximately 50,000 square feet and has now been completed and occupied.
