The Miller Clinic, Charlotte, North Carolina

At the time MDI worked with The Miller Clinic they were a 20 doctor orthopedic group.  The local hospital was planning the development of a new major medical office building on its campus and had attracted The Miller Clinic to that building.  The hospital was using one of the national medical building developers to develop the building.  After working with the developer on approximately 12 different concept sketches The Miller Clinic came to MDI (we had had a prior relationship from the work we had done on their original building) to critique the “final” design they had achieved with their developer.  Our assessment showed that the building design would not work well for the patient, would be inefficient for the staff and would also be inefficient for the physician.  The doctors concurred with our assessment and asked us to redesign the floor.

Initially, we reprogrammed the doctors medical space needs.  With this program responding to the clinic’s expectations, MDI then prepared the Schematic Design for their suite.  This design was then turned over to the developer to implement.

All in all, the clinic design encompassed approximately 43,000 square feet and included clinical space, physical therapy space, and administrative space.
