Northeastern Eye Institute, Scranton Pennsylvania
Taking an abandoned industrial building and converting it to an Eye Institute required the medical planning and design expertise of Medical Design International. MDI provided Planning, Programming, Medical Space Planning, and Architectural services for this project.
The building contains clinical space for multiple Ophthalmologists to see patients at one time, Ambulatory Surgery, Minor procedure, and optical services in one location.
The exam lane design requires the specialized knowledge of a medical planner experienced in Ophthalmology design. This is not a good place for on the job learning.
Exam lanes are by their nature complicated spaces with multiple pieces of equipment and specialized lighting and control requirements.
The advent of computers and electronic medical records also has an impact on the design of the exam lane. The coordination of the equipment, computers, and efficient practice patterns is performed by MDI.
The inclusion of optical services is nothing new to Medical Design International. This facility designed over 12 years ago shows how optical can be integrated effectively into an Ophthalmology practice.
Ideally patients are exposed to the optical shop at different stages during their office visit. By integrating optical into the practice the patients are provided with convenience and the knowledge that their eyewear needs are being met by the same team that is serving their medical needs
At Northeastern Eye patients are exposed to the optical shop while waiting, dilation, and upon exiting the facility.
This arrangement provides for the tasteful integration of this service and revenue stream into the practice.
