Richard C. Haines, Jr.
President 

Dick Haines is president of Atlanta-based Medical Design International, a recognized leader in the medical design and architectural field with comprehensive services for consulting, design and interiors. With over 27 years of architectural and design experience, Mr. Haines is widely acknowledged by his colleagues as one of the industry’s top medical space planners.

Mr. Haines has served as the head of Medical Design International since 1980. He has directed the company in the development of diverse, targeted professional services for the healthcare field. His broad expertise includes: planning of services for medical facilities; project organization and management; design of healthcare facilities including acute, outpatient and medical education facilities; construction observation of medical projects; and medical facility architecture.

“Good medical planning and bad medical planning generally take the same amount of space and cost as much,” he notes. ‘With respect to the efficacy of the operation of the practice, however, the difference is night and day.”

Frequently published in prominent trade journals and publications, Mr. Haines’ recent work includes: “A Better Way to Practice lnterView”, Physicians Practice “Squeezed for Space?”, Ophthalmology Management and a comprehensive series of articles for The Physician’s Advisory: including ‘Take full Advantage of Your Office Designer’s Experience”, “Light Signaling Systems Enhance Productivity”, “Assemble a Competent Team to Design Your New Office” and “Plan Your New Office to Optimize Physician Production”.

Mr. Haines is in demand as a guest speaker, having made more than 60 presentations during his career to a varied group of professional and medical organizations. He is a member of the Medical Group Management Association, the American Management Association and the American Hospital Association.

He holds a bachelor of architecture degree from Cornell University and is registered with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

Kurtis Grant serves as a medical planning consultant and project manager with Medical Design International (MDI).  As a member of MDI since 1994, Kurtis is responsible for the analysis of medical practices, programming, operational planning and productivity analysis.  Project management responsibilities include schematic design, design development, construction documents and contract administration.

Kurtis holds a bachelor of science degree in architectural engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University (1990).
